Cytocentrics honored as “Selected Landmark 2011”

Rostock, Novemver 02, 2011 - Cytocentrics was honored by the nationwide German innovation competition "Germany – Land of Ideas 2011". The company is one of 365 winners in the nationwide contest “365 Landmarks in the Land of Ideas”, which is administered by the ‘Germany –Land of Ideas’ nation-branding initiative in cooperation with the Federation of German Industry (BDI) and Deutsche Bank. The initiative is under the patronage of the German President Christian Wulff.  As “chosen landmark in 2011”, Cytocentrics was honored for its innovative development in laboratory equipment. Cytocentrics’s CytoPatch™ Instrument automates the difficult patch clamp technique and replaces the time-consuming and expensive manual patch clamping technology. The award was celebrated on October 25th, 2011 with an award ceremony and an ion channel and company symposium.

Dr. Thomas Knott, CEO of Cytocentrics, said in his greeting remarks that he is delighted to be one of the winners.  “To receive this award is a great honor and a great recognition especially of the precise, valuable and hard work performed by the Cytocentrics team” told Knott. 

Prof. Erwin Neher, Scientific Advisor of Cytocentrics and Nobel Prize winner hold an impressive speech about the beginning of the patch clamp technology. Moreover, he gave a hopeful glimpse of future prospects of this technology to identify ion channels as drug targets.

The welcome address of the prize ceremony was held by Juliane von Trotha, representative of Land of Ideas. She explained that the company has been selected as one of 365 winners out of 2600 participants in the Land of Ideas contest. The honorific speech and presentation of trophy “Cytocentrics – Selected Landmark 2011” was given by Birgit Krüger in the name of Deutsche Bank AG as exclusive partner of the initiative.  “ Cytocentrics developed an analytical instrument with which the risks on side effects of drugs can be detected in an early stage in drug development. This innovation truly desires the “Germany – Land of Ideas 2011” award”  said Krüger in her laudation.

Excellent talks by partners, customers and representatives from industry, research organizations and Universities were accompanied by interesting discussions between the sessions and the breaks. After the symposium, the attendants took the chance to see the CytoPatch™ Instrument in operation and had deeper discussions with Dr. Olaf Scheel, CSO of Cytocentrics and with Dr. Gesa Rascher-Eggstein, Chief Sales Officer.  “We are very delighted about the large number of participants and their interest in our CytoPatch Technology,” said  Rascher-Eggstein.
